Overview - Step 3: Photography
Imagine an electronic photo album containing over 77,000 pictures of the properties in Fayette County. That’s what will be created in the photography step of the revaluation. In October 2000, CLT employees began taking photographs of the outside of each property. CLT employees use digital cameras to take one or more pictures of every home, apartment and commercial building in the county. Photographers are careful to ensure that no people are included in the pictures. The electronic pictures are then transferred from the digital cameras to a specially designed database that can hold and manage such a large volume of data. Later on in the project, these photos will be linked to a detailed description of each property.
Photos are used to verify data accuracy and to assist in reviewing value estimates to help make sure they are reasonable for the individual property. In addition, when a property is valued, the appraiser can review pictures of the sales of the comparable properties. This information is used to establish the market value of the property being appraised.
