Overview - Step 2: Data
Verification
The
data verification mailer is a printed report mailed to property owners
that includes the descriptive data that will be used to value the property.
The property owner is invited to provide any corrections to the data presented
on the mailer. For example, the room count may need adjustment - up or
down. If the data does appear to contain erroneous information, the mailer
lists instructions for making corrections and for returning the data mailer
to CLT (not the County) for follow-up research and corrective action.
If the data appear correct, the property owner does not need to take any
action. The County is working to keep the revaluation process as open
as possible. There are no secrets in the method of placing a value on
property. The data mailer is one positive way of including property owners
in the process. It is a good idea to keep the mailer along with other
homeowner records. Property owners are scheduled to begin receiving data
verification mailers in February 2001.
